Installing a Piece of Seattle History

For the past month we have been at Pike Place Market working on the replacement of the Joe Desimone stairs, the set of stairs built in the early 1970′s that connects Western Avenue to the North Pavilion of the farmers market. While replacing everything but the frame of the stairs we came across a significant amount of dry rot that couldn’t be ignored. A major component that had to be replaced was one of the main posts supporting the structure. The post that looks like a telephone pole, stands 35 feet tall and had to be craned into place. Check out the video of the crane setting the post into place!
